Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions people ask most about using the timers on this site.
Common questions
How do I set a timer for 15 minutes?
Open the home page and press start. It is already set to 15:00. To start it automatically, add ?autostart=1 to the address, or bookmark timer15minute.com/?m=15&autostart=1.
Will the timer keep counting if I switch tabs or lock my phone?
Yes. It works from your device clock, so it cannot drift. The alarm needs the tab to still be open, and on phones it is most reliable if the screen stays on, which is why the timer asks for a screen wake lock.
Why can't I hear the alarm?
Check that the device is not muted and that the tab has not been closed. Browsers also block sound until you have interacted with the page, so the alarm works reliably once you have pressed start yourself.
Can I turn the sound off?
Yes. The sound button cycles through a clear alarm, a soft bell and silence. Your choice is remembered on that device.
Can I use the timer on a projector or classroom screen?
Yes. Press F or the full-screen button for edge-to-edge digits at high contrast, readable from the back of a room.
Does it work offline?
After your first visit, yes. The page is cached, so it opens and runs without a connection.
Can I add time without restarting?
Yes. The plus one minute button extends a running countdown and keeps the current progress.
Is it free?
Completely. No account, no trial, no limit.
What keyboard shortcuts are there?
Space starts and pauses, R resets, F toggles full screen and Escape silences the alarm.
Can I share a timer with a specific length?
Yes. Add ?m= and a number of minutes to any timer page, for example /?m=7 for seven minutes.
